Indian Chicken Gravy

This flavorful Indian dish will fill your kitchen with the rich aromas of spices and seasonings mingling together. Each serving of the Chicken Gravy is a good source of protein and antioxidants. Try this recipe served over Jeera Rice. Add some Raitha, which is an Indian side dish, and a hardboiled egg to complete the meal.

Indian Chicken Gravy


Serving size: 1/2 cup

1 tablespoon
butter (unsalted)
onion (medium, chopped)
5 slices
ginger root (peeled)
3 cloves
tomatoes (chopped)
1⁄2 teaspoon
mustard powder
1⁄4 teaspoon
chili powder
1⁄4 teaspoon
1 tablespoon
coriander powder
1⁄4 teaspoon
curry powder
chicken breasts (boneless, chopped)



  • Add chopped onion to blender and blend until smooth
  • Pour into bowl and set to the side
  • Add tomatoes to blender and blend until smooth
  • Pour into bowl with onion
  • Add ginger and garlic with 1-2 tablespoons of water to blender
  • Blend into a paste
  • Add butter to skillet and heat over low-medium heat
  • Add onion and tomato puree to skillet along with ginger-garlic paste, mustard powder, chili powder, salt, coriander powder, and curry powder
  • Bring to a boil
  • Once the sauce is a thick consistency add chicken
  • Cover and simmer until chicken is cooked (chicken will not be pink on the inside)
  • Add more water if needed
